Why We Design and Manufacture in the U.S.

Whenever patriotic holidays like Independence Day come along each year, I feel so much pride in the fact that we design and manufacture our products in the United States of America. This month, we also celebrated “Made In America” Week from July 14th to July 20th. All week, the White House honored those companies making an effort to revitalize the U.S. economy by keeping their workforce on our home soil.

Computrols has been manufacturing our products out of our New Orleans-based headquarters since the early 1990s. Earlier this year, we were fortunate enough to be recognized as the 2019 Louisiana Lantern Award winner, an award recognizing excellence in manufacturing and outstanding service to the community. But with cheap labor and lower overhead costs in foreign countries, why go through the trouble of making a product in the U.S. that you can make for a fraction of the price abroad?

Quality

As one of Computrols’ core values, the importance of quality in our products cannot be overstated. Computrols backs everything we manufacture with a lifetime warranty. That’s right…if our products fail, we are responsible for either fixing or replacing them for the life of the facility they are installed in. Without the most stringent quality control, this would not be possible.

Although we may be able to manufacture our products overseas for a lower cost, it would not be worth the risk of producing a substandard product. We have never cut corners when it comes to product quality. The cost of manufacturing is secondary to ensuring our product is the very best on the market.

Incremental Improvements

Rather than running tens of thousands of control boards at a time, Computrols runs smaller batches to ensure that we are constantly able to make improvements to our products. Occasionally when you make high-powered electronic products, you will find bugs or components that fail more quickly than they should. As many of our competitors continuously outsource their manufacturing and produce their products in massive quantities, they may be left with tens of thousands of controllers that have a defect but must be sold.

At Computrols, on the rare occasion when we receive a defective controller back from our customer, we investigate why it failed and will change the design, component, firmware, etc. to remedy the issue in the very next production run. This is one of the primary reasons we have been able to produce the finest BAS product on the market for the last 30+ years.

Employing American Workers

Last but certainly not least, Computrols chooses to manufacture our products in the U.S., because we want to provide American people with jobs that pay well and provide good benefits. We want to support or local and national economies by paying taxes to a government that will support Americans with infrastructure, social programs, and so much more, rather than cutting down on taxes and supporting economies in other countries.
